Dear New Pack 55 Families,
Welcome! It was great to meet so many of you at Sunday’s Pack picnic! 108 people with 16 new families attending! I hope that your boys had a good first experience with scouting!
I would like to provide you with the information that you will need for purchasing a class “A” (dress) uniform. Please know that your uniform will be different based on your Den. This information is for whenever you can get to it. I do not by any means expect everyone to have them for Friday’s Pack Meeting! Your sons can wear their class “B” uniform (Pack t-shirt) to the meeting for now.
If your child is in:
- 1st grade they are a Tiger
- 2nd grade they are a Wolf
- 3rd grade they are a Bear
- 4th grade they are a Webelo I
- 5th grade they are a Webelo II
What you need:
- Scout Handbook
- Blue short sleeve scout shirt (if you are starting out as a Webelo, you have the option of purchasing a tan shirt, which your son can continue to wear in Boy Scouts (assuming you remove and replace some patches)
- Neckerchief and slide
- Hat
- 2 – # 5 patches (representing Pack 55)
- 1 Patriot’s Path Council shoulder patch
- 1 World Crest Emblem
- optional is the bead kit: Tigers have a different one than the older boys. This is a recognition that the leader hands out (beads) which, if you buy a kit, the leader can add to as they earn them.
- optional is the belt. The boys will earn certain ‘belt loops’ which if they have a belt, they can put them on and feel pretty special!
(In my opinion, if you are going to buy one of the two ‘options’ above, I would suggest that Tigers purchase the Tiger Bead Kit, and the older boys purchase a belt. Either way, it’s optional and some of you may end up with both eventually!)
(if you can sew, no need for the “badge magic”, otherwise, it works like a charm! It’s an adhesive that can go through the wash.)
Also, make note to ask them for the picture of where everything goes. They should have a copy to give you. Otherwise, it can be found on-line here, and often in the handbook.
Where to buy your uniforms:
We have two Patriot’s Path Council Scout Stores in our area:
Wyatt Scout Shop & Mountainside Scout Shop
I am including a new e-mail and help desk for new Scout parents that our Council, Patriot’s Path is trialling this year. Feel free to check out the website as it does answer many common questions that new Scout parents have. There is also a number to call with questions, although you are welcome to ask me or your Den Leaders (assuming you are not a Tiger)!
Tigers: If any of you think that you might be interested in becoming a Tiger Den Leader or Co-Leader, would you please let me know before Friday’s Pack Meeting, so that we can talk through it. If no one comes forward, we will talk further about what the commitment is to be a Den Leader at our Pack Meeting.
I will send communications regarding our Pack Meeting as well as our first camping trip to Allamuchy under separate cover. Please, if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask your Den Leaders or me if you are a Tiger!
Thank you and again, welcome to the Pack!
